Project Description
The Columbus Road Lift Bridge spans the Cuyahoga River in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. This bridge was originally built in 1940 and was last rehabilitated in 1999. The project included replacement of the lift span, all mechanical and electrical workings, and rehabilitation of towers, existing piers and abutments. The lift span was constructed entirely off-site up-river from the bridge and was floated into place in July of 2014. The structural steel for both the towers and the lift span were repainted during the 2013 and 2014 construction seasons.
QCS provided construction supervision and oversaw the project logistics during intermittent bridge closings. Our staff inspected and documented quantity of materials delivered to the project, and coordinated the various contractor daily and weekly work schedules to maintain a productive and efficient job site. We supplied coatings inspection, monitoring and verifying surface preparation and providing comprehensive inspection services for all phases of the coatings application. The total construction cost was $31M.
